Chin hair and Girlfriends

I was distressed this morning to look in my 15X magnifying mirror  and find an inch long chin hair!  Okay, that’s a natural process.  What I want to know is where were the girlfriends when it was a half inch long?  Come on girls we have to step up and be there for each other.  If we don’t help each other out we’re all going to be braiding our beards! Sorry, I know this is supposed to be my “Happy Little Blog”…As I was taking my walk this morning with the sun coming up over the horizon I saw this sweet little puppy chasing butterflies in the field of wildflowers.  (Is that better?)

I’m going in this afternoon for a haircut.  I’m hoping to take years off.  I know I will at least take pounds off.  I have a lot of hair and it’s been about 100 degrees everyday.  I don’t tolerate heat as well as I used to. I would like to go super short, but Tara, my oldest daughter, is getting married next summer.  I’m afraid to do too short.  It might be fabulous, or it might be a nightmare to try to grow out in a year.  Am I being too cautious?

I’m also going to farmers market for some antioxidants and fiber.  Then girlfriend time at Yarn tonight (that’s called “Social-knitting).

Looking my age…and hopefully younger

I was watching the Today show and Preventinon magazine had list of “Harmless” habits that age you.  I looked it up on the prevention website and they have 9 habits that you shouldn’t do.  Alot of this I had heard before.  Some was new to me. This is abreviated and paraphrased.  See the actual article here http://online.prevention.com/9aginghabits/index.shtml .

1. You keep your college bedtime. (Most people need about 7-8 hours of sleep per night.)

2. You have a soft spot for sweets. (Not only does too much sugar cause weight gain, but also WRINKLES!)

3. You’re stressed more often than not. (Prevention recommends Deep Breathing excercises.)

4. You only excercise to lose weight. (Being active consistantly can help fight brain fog, reduce inflammation, and prevent type 2 diabetes.)

5. You blast your iPod. (I guess we look younger if we don’t have to cup our ear and say “Excuse me?”

6. You never see your girlfriends.  (I love this one!  And, it’s so true.  Some of my best gut laughs is with girlfriends.  And they’re great accountablity partners.  They say that friendships protect against obesity.  That all depends on how much fun you have eating with those friends. )

7. You eat your veggies-but not daily. (Antioxidant-packed fruits and veggie can help you stay young, but they only stay active in your body for a few hours.  They need to be replenished on a regular basis, about every 4 hours.)

8. You’ve shunned all fat from your diet. (Drop the trans fast, but keep unsaturated fats found in fish, nuts, and olive oil.  Monounsaturated fats are good for you as well, such as avocados.  I’m up for guacamole!)

9. You can’t recall when you last had sex. (An active sex life can make you LOOK younger-up to 12 years!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Happy Birthday to Me! (and Garfield the cat)

My son has been bugging me about starting a blog.  He seems to think that I have something to say that other people would be interested in hearing…really?  Is that right?  I knew this day would come, that my son would finally admit that his mom has something insightful to say, but I didn’t dream it would happen at 19.  Too late now, Adam.  It’s now officially documented.

This is a perfect time to start my journey in words.  It’s my 46th birthday today!  I discovered at a young age that I shared a birthday with Garfield the cat.  Check out the comic strips for each year on June 19.  http://www.garfield.com/comics/vault.html Every year he gets a cake.  Now I feel special. Don’t you wish you were born on June 19 also?
